The rumors about phone for MWC are getting me sick, and if you’re anything like me, you don’t needs rumors, you need concrete announcements, the real phone rather than some random pictures that leaked because someone forgot the prototype at a bar. So, let’s see what we can expect from MWC 2014!
Samsung
At MWC this year, Samsung will have their Unpack 5 event and there have been speculation that this will be the event to unveil the new Samsung Galaxy S5. This rumored to have Super AMOLED screen or 5.24 inches in diagonal and a QHD 2K resolution of 1440×2560. That is a total of 560 PPI. It will also rocking the Exynos 6 (which will also be announced at the Unpack 5) or the Snapdragon 805 SoC. It’s also contain 3GB of RAM, 32 and 64 GB version of capacity (most certainly expandable) and a big @55 3200mAh power battery. It will also have a 16 Megapixels camera (most likely work without OIS) and a 3.2 Megapixels front facing camera.
On top of all, it’s going to run Android latest version, 4.4.2 Kitkat, possibly with Samsung new Magazine UX on top, although with recent pressure from Google saying that Samsung should put less skin on Android, we might see something different.
Nokia
One of the most heavily rumor device of MWC this year would probably the Nokia X, the first Nokia device that is running Android, sort of… The rumor to be that Nokia will do what Amazon and the kindle did. It will also run Android 4.2.2 Kitkat with the Snapdragon 200, 512mg of RAM, 8gb of capacity and a 4 inches screen.
We can also expect some Windows Phone hardware because of Nokia’s recent teaser, a vine video with the Nokia Lumia 1020 in it. Or at least, Windows Phone version 8.1. But there was some reliable rumor that MWC this year will be a no Windows show.
Last and but also the least excited news (well, not for me, but for other people, so maybe I’m just weird) Nokia will have the Treasure Tag there, a device that you put on your key, or in your purse or wallet. With NFC and Bluetooth inside, it will notify you whenever you left that behind too far.
Sony
Well, with its vague teaser, I’m scratching my head and not sure what we can expect, but it’s rumored to be a Sony Xperia Z2 tablet, which I and @gadgetleaks (twitter) to have 266 x 172 x 6.4mm, and a mass of 426g for the Wifi-only model or 439g for LTE – that’s significantly lighter than the Tablet Z, to the tune of almost 14% for the Wifi version.
Huawei
For Huawei this year, we can expect 2 Smartphones, the Ascend D3 and Ascend G6. We can also expect 2 tablets, one called Tablet Media Pad X1, the other one we can expect it to be super-slim. Also, there is a possibility of a smartwatch, with a picture of just came surface.
LG
Don’t expect much from them, the 2 phones, G Pro 2 and the G2 Mini both has gone official to the press this past few weeks. And there is no new surprise expected from LG. But there is still the L Series III, which I hope would be revealed in their event on Sunday.
ZTE
ZTE as well has shown us everything they got at CES 2014, so there would not be that much new devices at MWC for them. But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen, I mean, we did not expect them to have that much new devices at CES anyway, so, could ZTE pulls another WOW? One thing we could see this Monday is the Grand Memo II LTE, the Open C Firefox OS device as well as its Grand Watch, another smartwatch.
Motorola
Well, we don’t expect new devices at this event, this most likely would just be an official statement from Motorola and Lenovo on their acquisition and the company’s new direction in the U.S as well as worldwide. Some rumor says that they would have an announcement on the availability of Moto X and Moto G for Europeans market.
That is it, for those who is going to Barcelona this week, have fun!
