It is kind of cool how Microsoft is committing to the whole new apps ecosystem for Windows Phone 8.1. The past few weeks, we have seen leaks of a file manager type that apparently is going to be in Windows Phone 8.1 update, well, those were somewhat the truth.
Today, Microsoft releases an app called Files, its UI and function is matched with the leaks we got a week or two back. This app is the official files-managing apps for Windows Phone 8.1. This is a free app that reportedly will be pre-instal in your future Windows Phone 8.1 devices. We have heard a lot about this since Belfiore did an AMA on Reddit in the beginning of this month, and the only thing we did not expect was that it will be free for download in May instead of June or July with the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
This app will feature:
- Access files stored on your phone and SD card
- Browse, search and launch files
- Easily share one file or multiple files
- Create folders to organize your files
- Copy, move, rename and delete files

The app can access your files (musics, documents, pictures, ringtones, videos) no matter they are of Micro SD card or internal memory. It’s a basic file-managing app, but hey, it is better than not having a file-managing app at all.
